Today, Tim began his latest chemo -- one 2 hour infusion at Kaiser that's the same as three weeks ago, the other infusion via an attached pump that's a different version of the chemo pills that made him so sick the last time. Tim has to wear the infusion pump for 2 days before it's detached. We're hoping this time goes better than the last. There really aren't any other treatments if this one doesn't work or is too difficult to continue.
The dermatologist confirmed that Paul’s parpsoriasis has returned. Although it presents like the more common psoriasis (itchy patches), it's actually a very different and rare disease -- so rare that the dermatologist has only seen two other cases in his practice. Paul will once again use a topical cream along with a home "light box" – much like how he was treated before his transplant. The light box looks like a small phone booth that emits ultraviolet light -- the main treatment for parapsoriasis. Besides being uncomfortable, the main concern with parapsorisis is that it can develop into lymphoma.
Paul's Dad will be 98 in a couple weeks. Mike is basically doing fine, although he has decided to stop driving. That will be a big change for him. Fortunately, his apartment complex offers weekly van service to local grocery stores. Depending on how we're doing, we're hoping to go out to Milwaukee to visit him next month. By then, all of Paul's travel restrictions will have been lifted. Our main problem is that there no longer are direct flights from the Bay Area to Milwaukee. This means plane changes and a much longer travel time (7-8 hours).
